is that (1) they won't hire a lawyer into those positions (they know our salary requirements are too high and we'd be discontent with the job so quickly that they may as well start looking for our replacement even before we start, so they don't even bother responding to our requests so we can say "but I really would be interested"... which doesn't apply to most minimum-wage jobs (which is far less than $15/hr) or security jobs, cuz I really wouldn't be interested, and
(2) YOU try living on $15/hr in Southern California and a single income. Not Possible. Not possible in Northern California either. Maybe somewhere in central california or way way way up north near Oregon or significantly east near Arizona... but not any of the heavily populated areas.
(3) YOU try paying over $1000 in loans per month and $1000 in rent per month, plus health insurance (nearly $300/month as an individual who's not underwritable due to her weight) plus groceries, plus phone, plus electricity, plus water, plus gas, plus trash disposal, plus gasoline, plus prescriptions, plus whatever emergencies come up requiring money be spent... and doing all that on only $18/hr (which is what I'm doing right now. It's not working). Not to mention the MANDATORY continuing legal education (costs upwards of $1000/yr) and the MANDATORY state bar membership ($400/yr), plus membership in associations -- which is practically required in order to get work or find clients (over $100/yr each for attorneys), and subscriptions to trade journals necessary to stay on top of developments in the law...
So please, don't pretend you know anything about my situation. If you haven't been in it, you don't know. |
