Speaking of cops... by imperito2006-03-24 09:54:08
If they walked up to my door, I would ask to see by merlin2006-03-24 09:57:11

It would take a little more work, but anyone who had a few colors of spray pains and could make some lettering stencils could make a passable forgery, the lights would be tricky but you could easily make something good enough to pass casual inspection while off and in low light conditions.

The badge number is at least a small improvement, vulnerable to any number of trivial attacks, but at least something. I wonder how long the guy would be willing to wait, though? Do you think your average actual cop (assuming he is a cop) is going to wait for you to run a background check on him? I've yet to meet a cop smart enough for me to even explain actually defensive security practices to.

It just seems that with regard to personal security, there is a lot of "it won't happen to me" thinking prevailing in all aspects, so people don't take things like that seriously, whereas in computer security you do (or try to, anyway :) )
