Speaking of cops... by imperito 2006-03-24 09:54:08
A friend and I were having an interesting discussion the other day about police and authentication.

Basically, how much do you think a cop should have to do, to be considered a cop, as opposed to joe random passerby. From a network / computer systems security perspective, its laughable that someone just walks up to you, presents some more or less publically available authentication tokens, and is granted rather severe privilege escalation. But it happens. And people do apparently get in bad situations because of it.

If a person walked up to your front door and said they were police, would you let them in? Should you? Would you want your computer to behave the same way if s/police/root/?

Just food for thought.
