The question is really "Is it our gun control, or is it something else?"
If it's something else, then we need to find out what it is and do it. It's very difficult to get a gun here, and there are very few shootings.

One thing that really brought this home to me was when the ship I was working on hosted the New Jersey State Policemens' Benevolent Association cruise last year.

At their meetings, the first thing they did was to recite the names of the policemen who had been killed on duty.
There are 57 names on that list, between 1980 and 1998. Compare that to the UK:
In the period 1985 to 2005, exactly 36 policemen have been murdered in the line of duty.
