| Oh, the irony. |

A while ago I and a couple of other coworkers had a discussion about our servers and SQL 2005 came up. I wanted to have it tested, but not put on any production server at least until proven safe and stable enough and certainly not existing installations replaced without a damn good reason. Others however decisively protested against it even being tested at least until about second service pack or so. That the current version has been much more thoroughly tested, vulnerabilities patched and bugs fixed. In short, the patches released so far made the old version much more stable and secure than the new one.
I just received a couple of emails from Trend OfficeScan saying certain vulnerability was found on some computers. After a quick search on the web, I found out that that SQL 2000 vulnerability was fixed four years ago. In other words, these computers couldn't have had any later service packs installed and the list of vulnerable computers matched exactly to the list of workstations of all our coders minus mine and one other which is currently running Linux. |
