| I'm suspending our current target, and substituting a more important one: get back into the top ten performers. To do this, we need a daily average of around 200,000 at the moment. We got bumped down a spot by some upstart team with two members. Come on, there must be a few UFies out there with access to a lab full of computers!
afterburner has provided a wonderful new stats service. Check it out, it's good.
The World Community Grid is a grid computing project whose mission "[...] is to create the world's largest public computing grid to tackle projects that benefit humanity." Their current projects are FightAIDS@Home and the Human Proteome Folding Project.
After you have got the client up and running, please join Team User Friendly.
Statistics broke today, I'll post them when I have them.
What can I do for you?
If you are hesitating about joining, please tell me what I can do to sweeten the deal.
Things that are already on the way include:
-
Support for Mac OS X (I lobbied for you guys, and now I'm told it's on the way!)
-
A project focussed solely on curing cancer (I can't give a firm time on this, we haven't been told anything more yet.)
And things we already have:
-
BOINC can run from a key drive, with a little effort.
-
I have heard reports that WCG will run on FreeBSD, using BOINC and the Linux science application binaries, and a bit of magic.
-
Tools to aid in site-wide BOINC deployment, with one-click MST creation.
Things that you have requested:
-
Certificates for smaller point increments, for people without thousands of computers.
-
(Remind me if I've forgotten anything.)
What else do you need? And of course, if you want help setting any of this up, just yell.
This will be a daily post, if there are no objections. Please, come and help out. I really can't think of a better use for my spare CPU cycles, or yours either.
Please head over to the Team User Friendly thread for any team discussion you think will last beyond rollover. (You need your WCG login to post.)
