Mrs Calabash referred to Jimmy's wife, who passed away. At the end of each act, after her demise, he always addressed that statement to his wife, who he loved very much. When I was very very very young, I saw him with my parents at a social gathering, where he performed for free to raise money to combat racism in schools. My mother posed the same question to him directly. He answered that Mrs C was the only love of his life.
