Somewhere in the labyrinthine UI that is Windows Update, there's an option to "don't prompt me about this update again". Or at least, there used to be; maybe they changed all that with WU v6. Or maybe they made it more obvious. (Hey, I can hope, at least. I don't go to WU enough to remember exactly what it looks like; I just use the patch deployment tool that we have at work.) I don't know anything about Apple's update thingy, but it might have something similar.
