(Techi & Myke) Thanks for the suggestions and links to GPS centeral, not only is thier website helpful with lots of technical info, but they are reasonable close to Edmonton. (Reasonable being less then a day-trip travels)
I was looking at the Garmin GPS 18 Deluxe for my lap top, but just realized that I would have to have the laptop on the whole time to log a trip. Is there an affordable hand unit that you can recomend, which would allow me to;
1) Track many waypoints or location (could be looking at up to 100 points.
2) Download the waypoints as standard EXIF data that can be imported to pictures using 3rd party software (Exifer)
3) Has rechargable batteries and long battery life (24 hours continous use)
4) Can be programed to record data at predefined periods (ie every 15 minutes, every hour etc)
5) Is rugged, and reasonable light weight so it is not too bulky to carry around by hand while hiking.
My main useage (beyond driving up my geekpoints) is to take it on photo excersions with me, then transfer the GPS data to the digital pictures in order to document locations, times & dates.
From what I've been able to piece together, the Garmin name seems to be highly respected and has excellent post sale customer care.
Any model types that you have experience that may meet my needs? |
