I don't do *any* PAID personal work on company by ChuckAB 2006-01-24 14:00:09
time. Cleaning up a machine that's that bad off means that I take it home and charge my uber-cheap hourly rate of $40US/hr.

Aside: I don't charge for 'chugging' time - time that I have to wait for a process/utility to complete. If it takes 6 minutes to set up and start a process that takes an hour, I charge only for the 6 minutes (once my first hour minimum is up). HOWEVER, if I'm researching something else about their problem(s) while their machine is 'chugging' away, then that's billable time. If I'm reading UF while I'm waiting - that's not billable.

You agreed to trade a part of your time to the company for a fee. It's not ethical to offer that same time to someone else for a fee. Nor should you use paid company time for non-company business - even if you don't have any company work to do at a particular moment.

MHO - UAYSF (My Humble Opinion - Use As You See Fit)
