Different type of defib unit. by maceogan 2006-01-24 12:43:56
The ones in offices are NOT the sameas the ones used by trained personnel on ambulances and in hospitals.

The ones in an office are AEDs (Automated External Defibrilaters). They do not have the power or require the same extent of training to use. While I am not sayign that someoen could not get themselves in trouble with those, they have a LOT more built into them to make them "foolproof" (In quotes because I know nothing is foolproof).

They do not have paddles, they have pads that have to be affixed to the person. Also they have a whole sequence it walks you throguh AND they check for a pulse, etc and do not solely rely on the user.

But with those there are a whole other potential set of liability issues. I believe if they have one they are required to maintain its operational capability or they could be liable. I am not certain of that though.
