It is illegal unless you undergo the body cavity examination by the FBI, shell out a fair amount of cash for said examination, and allow certain federal agencies to show up at any time. Plus the paper work that is done to keep the Class III license. Then there is the $200 for each transfer on an NFA item. Lots to keep straight, and if you don't dot the "i"s just right they make life unpleasant.
