Regarding this post, I do think I expressed myself not just unclearly, but in an extremely rude way as a result. So first off, my apologies.
What I was thinking of was this specific case; I wasn't trying to make a general statement.
In this case, the baby's mother went to the hospital, and returned limbless; I can't imagine that won't have some lasting mental effect. The possibility certainly exists that she'll suffer depressions, doesn't it; and depressions are not good in any family.
Looking back, I see I listed the reason's cause, not the reason itself. That's less than unclear; it's misleading. Making a sweeping statement that handicapped people are 'incapable of raising their children normally' ranks rather high on my Scale of Stupid; you quite rightly took issue.
