My calculations gave 10.2523kilohms. *NOT* a R12 number, I'm sure.

I *will* put a small capacitor across the X resistor, and the PWM output is at 78KHz, so it should be fine - a 10nF capacitor should suffice, yes? (I have a few lying around)

I guess I'll use a 10k and a 220ohm resistor in series, and hope the display is adjustable enough.
