and have decided that physical size is not an issue. what we are concerned with is storage space. Please try and keep the pictures under 1Mb each If you want to send a 700Kb file that is 1680x1280 that is fine.

I'm not up on web design, but I expect that the main pages will be thumbnails that may be clicked on to view the full size images. My personal preference is to keep my pictures sized to a standard screen resolution. (600x480 = NTSC TV resolution = 0.3Mp) (1024x768 is a standard screen resolution) of course using Portait or landscape orientation will change the numbers as will cropping.
