I liked that he is technically oriented, so when I had to explain technical issues to him, he understood where I was coming from. He wasn't a PHB. What I didn't like was that he didn't realize when he had to stand up and take responsibility for issues I made him aware of that he did not escalate. When I took the heat, he said to me, "Oh. I didn't realize it was that important." And to my knowledge, he never went to bat and said that I did actually follow the chain of command, and it was his failure to escalate, not mine.
The new supervisor, he's a bit of an unknown as far as his personnel management style. And he is not technical. High PHB potential, but also high potential for a better understanding of the business process and what the business priorities are so as long as I do communicate to him, he can better evaluate what's important to the suits, and neither of us will be in a position to receive any heat over future issues.
So right now, my feelings are kind of mixed. I'm hoping things will work out well. |
