how about scrapping the connection totally and then putting it back together with the different name? I use XP on all my machines, but when I change a name of something and tell everything else the new name it still doesn't ever work and I have to kill the network connection and re-create it with the new name. could it be something like that (like windows doesn't like network names changed, just create new connection with the diff name?)
