need help on cyrus/exim/clamav/spamd by spiffikins 2005-12-19 15:06:40
I have a mail server here at work, and for the past week or so, it seems like I'm getting a lot of complaints that people are unable to use it - getting a lot of "pop3 server not available" errors.

I noticed a few times last week the load average went way up - but I've been running top in a window on my desktop here for 2-3 days and I haven't seen that happen at all - my load average is 0.2-0.6 or so.

I did notice that I had a *lot* of ssh requests coming from Bulgaria and Korea overnight, which is not good, so I closed the ssh port in the firewall last week. It doesn't look like anyone actually succeeded at getting into the server, but I'm not an expert on tracing such things.

I've been watching my outbound smtp logs all day - there haven't been any large "batches" of mail going out - just the normal scads of crappy email coming in that my server rejects.

I'd really like to be able to figure out what the problem is - any thoughts and ideas are muchly appreciated!
