Jr and Sr high schools - ostensibly a period during which you can do work for you other classes, although depending on the teacher you may be allowed to play cards or listen to music or generally goof off instead. You can opt for one during one of the regular class periods so, which my HS required all freshman to do (unbelievable, I know). The are also thankfully available as an alternative to suffering through things like pep rallys.
