Electronic Funds Transfers -- good, bad, ugly? by Concept2005-12-19 10:49:52
  They need: by McNutcase2005-12-19 11:02:53
    Really? Wasn't the impression I got by Concept2005-12-19 11:04:59
It depends on the source of the request. by AndyA 2005-12-19 11:25:13
I pay my bills from my banks web site. Since I've just logged in it is assumed that I have authorised my self to make transers on my behalf. No need to give the account details to the water company that way.

Of course they get that information when the transfer comes through but they read that electronically off the cheque anyway so no difference there.

By pushing the money out of the account rather than having the water company pull it I don't need to give anyone the authority to remove money from the account and I only need to go to one place to pay all of my bills.

My bank did once do an electronic transfer based on my faxed signature without phoneing to confirm, I shouted at them for that but ultimatly the fraud protection would have covered me if it was a faked transfer.
