They are REQUIRED to investigate all claimes made about child abuse...no matter how petty they are. Some of the cases he had to investigate were so absurdly silly your jaw hits the floor to even think about them being called in. He had one ex-wife that called in "anonomously" about her ex-husband beating/molesting their kids and they had to go out once a month and talk to him and the kids. Ended up filing harrasment and some other charges against her when they could prove it was her.
