If I were to buy a brand new model year car, custom, and on top of that it is a hybrid in the first year they are available, and a VERY hot item, I would be lucky to get it inside 6 months.
I think they could have done a better job in giving you a realistic estimate of delivery date, but if they had said 6 months, would you have still bought it? They are out for the sale. Customer service is a secondary consideration.
