Help me pick a Pocket PC based on support.(repost) by snate 2006-11-19 12:55:59
Hello again,
This is a repost from late afternoon Saturday (see here) and Sunday morning (see here).
I am taking RetiQlum2's advice and posting this today.
Mostly my question is I guess about support. Is Dell worse than HP? Is HP worse than Dell? Are they the same? Does it matter in this case?

Thanks again

Here is the original post:
Hello,
I want to replace my current Pocket PC (a Dell Axim X5) with a new one that also has Bluetooth and WiFi and is running the current version of Windows Mobile (5.0).
I have narrowed it down to these two:
HP iPAQ hx2495
Dell Axim X51v

You may be wondering why I am even bothering to compare. The Dell costs the same right now and has much better specs except battery.
Well I am not as sure about Dell's support and would like to hear from you what your thoughts are on the subject of Dell's support lately.

I was actually ready to drive down to the store today and get the HP but then I realised that it is QVGA and not VGA, and I would prefer the higher VGA resolution. After searching the net the Dell seems to be the only current model that meets my critera.

Take a look at this list of Pros and Cons and tell me what you think.

HP iPAQ hx2495 Pros
Can get it right away (not that big a deal)
Better Battery (1440 mAh) and the slower processor speed probably extends the battery life (am I right?)
Accessories are widely available
HP and therfore better support (am I right?)

HP iPAQ hx2495 Cons
Less Memory (but I think it is good enough for me)
Slower processor (but I think it is good enough for me)
QVGA (320x240)

Dell Axim X51v Pros
More Memory
Faster Processor
VGA (640x480)

Dell Axim X51v Cons
Must order from Dell and wait for shipping (not that big a deal)
Worse Battery (1100 mAh) and the faster processor speed probably decreases the battery life (am I right?)
Accessories are usually only available from Dell
Dell and therfore worse support (am I right?)

I really don't know about the service and support from these two companies today. Maybe they are the same and I am worrying about getting the Dell for no reason especially since they cost the same right now. The more troubling thing is the battery life on the Dell but if that actually turns out to be a problem I can order the 2200 mAh.

Please advise.

Thanks
