"Shocking" Study about U.S. Media Bias by DesertRat662006-11-19 12:55:59
huge flaw in study -- it's useless. by unjust 2005-12-19 09:02:58
you can't claim that a story is biased because it cites a "liberal" orginization.

that's absurd.

i.e. bush allows spying on american citizens w/o oversight as a heading, with a comment from an aclu sopkesperson and from teh white house woudl mean teh article leans left.

if you're going to lable groups as liberal, you need to -very- sepcifically quanitify that or it's useless. i.e. you coudl claim the nra is a liberal group since it takes a liberal stance on gun ownership, or that a ultraright libertarian group is liberal as libertarians are ultra liberal in many respects.

likewise your'e nto taking into account the # of or frequency of comments from liberal sources. if there are more liberal think tanks, or they are more vocal about politics, then they will of course skew things.

additionally while you will have supporting opniions related in news stories, in order to fully report an item you need to report on both the pros and con's of an item, the pros typcially come out of the official source, and the con's rapidly from their detractors. if you have a right wing gvt, you're gonna get more left wing whining, and vice versa. look at the gop under clinton. bunch of babies w/o pacifiers, did the media slant right then? could it have if the aclu comments on -everything- then there's going to be a left wing slant.
