Framemaker woes by JimK 2005-12-19 04:05:57
Starting to look at Framemaker for producing our course notes and reference guides, as Word runs out of steam and is apparently bad at producing composite documents (chapters are separate documents) and applying uniform styles to them (left-right page numbering, that sort of thing).

But: how do I actually start using it? The first thing I see when I start it for the first time is a dialog box asking if I want "structured Framemaker" or not. WTF?

OK, so Word is not great, but at least a complete novice can enter text without reading the entire user guide.

The guide, btw, tells me very well how to do things, but since I don't know what I need to do it's not very helpful. Gah!!!

There are sample files in the installation, but I don't know how to edit them. Even cut 'n' paste doesn't work in a straightforward way. I need a tutorial to help me get started.
