Then you'll have an easy time, I think. Most notably because most swedes have an ingrained good opinion of British in general (probably because of the accent(s) and ww2 books and movies (Alistair McLean/Biggles/...)). And of course, except for your disgusting food, weird breakfast habits, gloomy homes, and your cute accent, you are a lot like us.
I might stress the modesty again though - it is not like anything I have seen in any other western country. Really. It can be borderline (and over the border) dishonest modesty. Not all swedes are like that, but a huge majority. I for example, think it's rather silly, but I would never tell a customer (I'm a software engineering consultant) that I'm really good at what I do. I leave that to the sales guy to say, and for the customer to see. If anything telling the customer that you are good will get him to think you're just cocky, and don't really know your stuff. If you instead tell him that "I've worked a bit with this" he'll think you're a wiz. Strange but mostly true ;-)
>My feet get cold easily.
Yeah, mine too. However, in most swedish homes shoes stay at the door, by penalty of ice cold stares.
>No polar bears? not even in the zoo? :)
Dont'cha know that polar bears are fictional, just like eskimos and penguins? |
