Please note that the "slap in the face" is done by teaching the course as a Religious Studies course. That Is Where It Belongs! The "slap in the face" is that thwey are going to teach it Appropriately.

How is the course anti-religious? Even the Vatican says that creationism isn't doctrine, just a story (a myth). This is a course on religious myths, taught as a religious studies topic, in a college environment, where those who don't want to take it Don't Have To.

That is Nothing like the Board of Education trying to force ID into Science classes, where it has No business being, in public schools where kids Don't get to choose whether or not to take the course.

Also, the attempt to force ID into the science classroom wasn't done as a "slap the scientific community in the face". It was done to force Religion into the curriculum of the public schools by Maskquearing it as science.
