Cook, fry or bake them too long and it gets loose and ruins the taste. Brussel sprouts are notorious for this. Mine, and most other "moms" I know used to consider 15 to 30 mins boiling a good way to prepare just about any vegetable. Was nice to see them dig in when I started cooking :)
