          Science-based values? by BloodyViking 2005-11-29 13:38:07
Huh?

There are no "unique restrictions placed on religion by "separation of church and state". The restrictions only exist in the workplace, and are of the same nature as those applied to everyone who works for someone else. i.e. Keep your personal life out of the workplace (generally limited to when it would interfere with your work or annoy others).

Since religious values vary by religion, and are by no means universal (though some aspects of them come close), it is a Good Thing that they not be recognized by the government.

Do you want all women to have to be covered from head to toe at all times? Do you want to have to sweep the ground in front of you so you don't step on and kill an ant? Do you want all statues and pictures forbidden? Those are examples of religious values. Do you want the government enforcing them on you?

You may say that Your religious values aren't that extreme, but does that make it any more Right for them to be imposed on unbelievers? Or worse yet, those for whom imposition of your religious values would involve sacrilege?
