I started getting spam after one of my high school teachers who I'd stayed in contact with went and clicked an attachment she shouldn't have... even once I made a housecall to clean up her computer, I continued receiving the same sort of spam from places as far away as .fr and .cn. I think while her computer was infected it passed on the harvested addresses to other infected computers... at least, that's the only way I can think of for spammers to get hold of the nickname that only she and a few other people at my high school knew about/used for me...
