the Asian chipmunk will die in 30 minutes, if placed in a small space with lots of other chipmunks, due to the social stress it is under.
Something I can fully sympathise with. Sure, being with people is good fun, but after a while, I need at least some privacy. Probably for the same reason the chipmunks need it, the subconscious feeling of having to defend your own private territory from invasion (might not be all that subconscious for the chipmunks, of course).
