Cat III system is a type of ILS (Instrument Landing System) that enables Autolanding in planes equipped with that system.
Usually, when a pilot makes an ILS landing, the direction and descent is controlled by the autopilot until 500 ft. above the runway, where the system must be deactivated and the pilot must control the plane the rest of the way in. A Cat III system can take the plane all the down until the tires touch the asphalt. |
