in my former flat I had little space and had bought one combination type and was told then (1998, iirc) that most manufacturers already discontinued these types. The drying function died just in time past the end of the warranty, but the washing is still running properly. And as said below, you may need 2 drying runs for 1 washing load.
So if you have the space (and money) available, I would say go for 2 separate ones.
