i now have it all set up with

c: 5gb <fat32> (\windows; same as old 40gb drive, about half full)
/boot 32mb <ext2> (same as old 40gb drive but no reason to make bigger)
swap 512mb <swap> (same)
swap 7.5gb <swap> (used to be / but i couldn't edit a reiserfs partition with parted)
/ 55gb <reiserfs> (so i dd'd it to the blank space and resized with resize_riserfs. dd took 20 mintues, resize_riserfs took 10 seconds)
E: 55gb <NTFS> (\program files)
F: 700mb <fat32> (cd sized)
q: 100gb <fat32> (\documents and settings, \mp3, \tv)

so..... now sleep, then tonight the 40gb goes in the wife's box so we can go back to having our own darn computers agin
