Or maybe I'm intolerant. I make it a point to harangue people who are in my close circle of friends when they act like an ass. I'll keep pestering them about it until they correct their behaviour or leave. It probably explains why I have a very small circle of close friends. :) It sounds to me like he doesn't like being held to his word, and when you call him on it, he hates being made to look dishonest or dishonourable.
