Why is it that people edit reality when they don't do what they SAY they'll do?
Case in point: friend asks me to pick up dog kibble. I warn that money is TIGHT and he will HAVE to pay me when he gets kibble from me. He 'forgets' to go to ATM, so I 'forget' to bring kibble in from car. He goes home after Thanksgiving meal (my house, my budget), then calls this am. He wants me to drive out to his house and deliver kibble. I ask if he's got the $ for the dog food.
He gets mad and hangs up.
He shows up an hour or so later. He tells his daughter (his daughter is my housemate, by the way -- don't ask for those details right now) that *I* called HIM and bitched about the cash. I point out calmly and firmly that he had called me and I had only held him to our prior agreement. He starts to argue; I tell him to stop editing history to suit himself. I do NOT lose my temper -- but he does. He leaves.
He calls a few minutes later and asks how much I need. I name the figure. He hangs up.
He comes back and THROWS cash at me. It's more than I need. I start to comment; his daughter waves me off. They chitchat -- I might as well not be there, but it's MY HOUSE so I keep watching the movie. Eventually he says to put it toward one of the bills his daughter is incurring.
This is 'same old, same old' -- he doesn't do as he says he will and then tries to make it look as though I'm being unreasonable. Yesterday, he snapped that "you and Susan" (his ex) both say that. Gee .... and his daughter thinks so ... and his ex-wife thinks so ...me thinks the man is in serious denial about himself.
Sometimes, you can love your friends, but not like what they do, huh? |
