One that depends on totally different selection criteria for its content. One that you can choose to watch, or not. Personally, I welcome more choice. Even if everybody has to pay for it.
It benefits those who don't correspond to the 'sweet spot' demographics that ad-paid channels aim for. If you happen to correspond, it won't benefit you. Much. If you don't, it benefits you. Much.
Your argument is similar to the argument against your county taxes being used to pave roads that you don't drive on. But since taxes are there to benefit everyone, this granting of choice is very appropriate for what (yes, you are right in that) is simply another tax. |
