One day we were having a field march and my hoochie mate was having problems with his socks - they had stretched and wouldn't stay up. The sargeant was a stickler for dress even on a march so said hoochie mate was stopping every hundred feet or so to pull up his socks and lagging further and further behind.

Sarge turns around and yells at him "pull up your socks" (ie. "hurry up here and get back in formation")...so he did. Literally.

Sargeants are scary when they turn purple.
