  Ballroom dancing? by Esteis 2005-10-06 13:52:19
1) Is it 4/4 beat?
No --> Go to question 2
Yes --> Go to question 3

2) Assuming it's 3/4th: is it slow?
No --> Viennese Waltz
Yes --> English Waltz

3) Does it have an upbeat?
(E.g. "start - 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 1 - 2 - 3 - 4" as opposed to
"1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 1 - 2 - 3 - 4")
No --> Go to question 5
Yes --> Go to question 4

4) Is it slow?
No --> Cha-cha-cha, prolly. Try counting "start, one, two, cha-cha-cha, one, two, cha-cha-cha" to check that it is.
Yes --> Rumba, prolly. Try counting "start, step, back, slooow, step, back, slooow".

5) Is very quick?
Yes --> Jive, prolly. "one two, side-to-side, side-to-side"
No --> Go to 6.

6) Does it have a forceful, majestic, first one or two beats of every measure?
Yes --> Prolly Ballroom tango. Try counting the steps in your head.
No --> Go to 7

7) Is it normal tempo, or at speed?
Yes --> Quickstep, prolly.
No --> Some other dance, think of what you've learned.

In general, if you can count the steps to it, you can dance the steps to it.
