SUV versus Van/Minivan by merlin2005-10-06 11:54:23

It's their roots then? by plblark 2005-10-06 13:17:13
Minivans are cargo vans made more passenger friendly and thus more car like... They're a fusion of a car and a van with ride and maneuverability as key factors.

SUV's are primarily Light trucks and mostly fall under that categopry in legislation which means different safety and efficiency rewuirements. They come from trucks and were beefed up a bit with passenger considerations crammed onto a light truck body.

Then, both vehicles evolved to fill the the two extremes of the same niche. One for Truck that used to haul cargo but now also hauls people and is beefy, the other is a car that holds a lot of people and stuff.
