Sounds like an improperly executed CQB move by DesertRat66 2005-10-06 08:25:09
Which is:

Heel of hand strike to nose of face/or block of attack while
Stepping back with dominant side leg and drawing gun
Gun is indexed on hip or ribcage (preferable) and tilted at a 45 degree angle (use your calibrated wrist to guestimate)
fire until threat goes away or gun is empty

I have used the manuver at contact distance in training many times and never had a problem with my other arm getting in the way. However, it takes LOTS of practice and situational awareness! This IS NOT something a novice should attempt, nor should it be done without an instructor PHYSICALLY present to ensure you are doing it CORRECTLY and SAFELY! Preferably with a SAFE (rubber) gun the first few hundred times!
