What is the deal with those freaky... by SnappingTurtle2005-10-06 06:23:22
holy cow. by zeitnot 2005-10-06 07:13:29
I have those too. They really freak me out.

It's always a "oh NO, it's finals week and suddenly I remember there's a course I was taking and I've forgotten to go to class for it all semester and I don't know anything about the subject material and how am I gonna go in and take the fina EXAM NOW?" kind of dream.

Which is really more accurately described as a nightmare. Because it leaves me feeling jumpy and uneasy for the whole day afterward. Sometimes even more than a day.

I'm amazed that somebody else has the same kind of dream. That means that this could be some kind of archetype.

As to what it means - I already got the answer to that. It's a classic "fear of failure" dream. Your subconscious is taking the opportunity to panic, because it's got a persisting irrational fear that you're going to mess up some important part of your life and FAIL.

I once had the opportunity to dream one of those dreams in a semi-lucid sort of fashion. And somehow, I stepped back from the scene and said to myself, "well so WHAT? What happens if i DO fail, then?"

And my subconscious paused for a moment, cast around for an answer, and finally replied: "you'll be EATEN by the FAILURE monster!" And it offered a visual of huge dark jaws sneaking up from behind me and threatening to chomp me into little pieces.

So it's a fear-of-failure dream.
