  Vancouver's a good city, by run.dll 2005-10-04 19:55:53
though I find that we Canadians are a tad smug about ourselves. Our geography has a lot to do with it (including having only the US as a land border, with all the economic benefits and free military protection that go with it).

Rain is pretty minor as problems go (it's mostly only in winter, and if you like winter sports, you're set here, with so many rinks and nearby mountains). The air and water quality, which everyone complains about, is excellent compared to any major city on earth.

The Canucks are going to the finals this year, and even though those damn Columbus types stole Brule, the Giants (WHL) are going to be good this year (as I type, they are playing Prince Albert and tied 1-1 at first intermission - I'm stuck in my office running computer simulations with the game ticket in my pocket).

The people are pretty nice, although in any big city there is a certain public distance between strangers. If you live near the Skytrain (I bought near a station) you are set as far as transport goes (except after 1 am, drat). There are good libraries, two fine universities plus other good post-secondary institutions, a very good symphony orchestra (Perlman is here next month), and lots of lousy drivers to keep you entertained when driving.

Not perfect, but the grass is always greener in Fantasy Garden World (Vancouver in-joke).
