Trying to base rational arguments on religious matters (without other sound foundations) doesn't work. I do not believe that all humans are equally valuable. I value a teacher more than a crack ho. I value a consciencious janitor more than the Enron weasels. The benefit of foreign nationals will only ever be a small part of international policy. The claim that "Either they are of paramount importance, or they cannot be important" is a false dichotomy. They are of importance, but not necessarily Paramount importance. Every time a politician sends someone to war, they are saying that Something is more valuable than the lives that will be lost, whether that is peace, freedom, or a greater number of lives. That is why Dubya used the WMDs as the reason to go to war. People eagerly won't go to war for cheaper oil, but they will to protect lives.
