That whole quote in context stated quite clearly that it is possible to reason through emotion, just more difficult. It also implied that he has suffered the same difficulty himself, so it really wasn't couched as an attack.

If you really want us to believe that your argument is based on "a rational response to a moral issue", you need to leave out the emotional baggage, and present a logically complete argument.

Things like your "logical disconnect" argument don't fly when not supported with the emotional baggage that prompts you to see it as one. Without the hatred of the current administration to stand on, the "logical disconnect" is just not there in any significant sense.
