I do PC support on the side and have a small business client with a small wireless network as below.

[workstation 2]----[printer]
Workstation 2 periodically fails to connect to the network and I get called in to fix it. Most of the work is done at workstation 1, but important files are kept on workstation 2, including some part of their e-mail system. When the wireless connection does not work they are basically dead in the water; can't do payroll, can't send pictures to their advertiser, can't print, & etc. I checked the wireless network settings on workstation 2 and it is set to automatically connect whenever their network is available, but it still doesn't seem to be doing it. All the network and setups predate my work there, I've basically just been repairing, and it seems to not be the the most stable way to run the little network considering the way the business uses it.
This is the fourth time in about 6 weeks they are calling me in to get their wireless network back up. The first time there were more problems, but the wireless network is the only problem that has come back since I got everthing else fixed. There were power outages or fluctuations around the time of the other calls, so I thought perhaps the power was the problem, rebooted everything, manually connected the wireless network, and it all works again. But this time there were no power problems that we're aware of and I'm wondering why it doesn't reconnect to the wireless network like it is supposed to.
How could I improve the stability of their network? |
