| ...that goes with that right. Yes, politicians are fair game for criticism. But the exercise of free speech should be attended by responsible consideration, intellectual curiousity and a reasonably open mind.
"I read the news," too. Read all about Katrina. Read about the snipers shooting at rescue helicopters. Read about the 200 bodies piled in walk-in coolers at the SuperDome. Read about baby-rapes and tourist murders. Read about the prison riot.
Fortunately, I didn't take any of it as gospel. So now, as more accurate information comes to light, removed from the panic and kneejerk reactions of the moment, it pleases me to learn that little if any of that was true. Instead of being hateful and angry at a community that would behave that way, I find myself appreciating the fact that there were many more people helping one another than hurting one another down there.
You've mentioned elsewhere looking at multiple newsources. Excellent for you! But if you're reading them with a predisposition to a position, are you reading them critically? |
