It was supposed to be a mission objective for Gallileo, though.

One model has a (relatively) small rocky/metallic core surrounded by super-compressed hydrogen -- effectively a liquid metal at a ridiculously high temperature, under those conditions -- with other trace gasses held in solution in the hydrogen. I don't know enough astrophysics to say how valid that particular model is, but I always liked the concept. Imagine: hydrogen in such a state as to be able to conduct electricity!
