so what IS a planet? by unjust2006-11-19 12:55:59
It shouldn't be defined based on similarity. by Khaar2005-10-04 09:16:26

Any "planet" with a "satellite" will not be orbiting directly around the sun. The earth's orbit is probably noticeably "wiggly" because the center of mass of the Earth-Moon system is noticeably different from the center of mass of the Earth alone. This leads to a problem in determining "primary" versus "binary" solar orbit, which in turn leads to potential disagreements about how much more mass one of the bodies should have than the other before the more massive is considered the "primary" body, which is grounds for a disagreement of the same sort as the definition of "planet".
