I wasn't really advocating the blame game, just joking around a bit. Blame game is how you end up not speaking to a family member for 20 years. Denial is also a nasty game though, and more Moms need to learn to face up to things.
I don't know if you are a minor or an adult, so I'm not sure of your logistical difficulties in seeking help. But again, you don't necessarily have to tell your Mom if you don't think she'll listen. You can always tell her later, if you tell her at all.
I'm leery of drugs, too. It's all I can do to remember taking my vitamins. However, I reached a point where I was a major mess, and was willing to try most anything to dig myself out of the black hole I was in.
The side effects are annoying and tapering off the drugs once you're done with them can be difficult, I admit. However, once you are on them, you may actually be able to listen to what your counselor/therapist says. Cognitive therapy and learning to change my thinking patterns helped a lot better in the long term than some stupid pills, but I would've been deaf to it if I was still in the throes of the anxiety attacks. It also helps to find a trustworthy counselor/therapist where you can establish rapport.
I am not a psychiatrist, but I seriously advise against "just taking the drugs." It's a Band-Aid solution. It helps you function in the short term but does nothing to address the underlying problem. And if you ARE a minor, be doubly careful- more and more of these kinds of drugs are being banned for use by children and teens.
*huggles* Just seek SOME sort of help, okay? You don't have to just suffer through it. |
